JPMorgan Chase: Invest in Clean Energy Now!
Posted in Campaign on 30. Jun, 2009
FACT: JP Morgan Chase signed the carbon principals and promised to be a “green” company.
FACT: JP Morgan Chase is one of the largest financiers of mountaintop removal coal mining in the U.S.
FACT: JP Morgan Chase is the lead underwriter for new coal fired power plants across the country.
Because the US government has lent the banks billions of tax-payer dollars via the bailouts, JP Morgan Chase is using our money to finance the dirty coal projects that are speeding global warming. Now, more than ever, we have a right and responsibility to demand that they stop.
JPMorgan Chase is now the biggest bank funding mountaintop removal–a brutal, toxic, and irreversibly destructive coal mining practice. As one of the nation’s financially strongest banks, Chase is in a perfect position to lead its peers by committing to stop its financial involvement with companies practicing mountaintop removal. Public pressure has already led Bank of America and Citi to take first steps toward ending investments in mountaintop removal coal companies, but we need much stronger policies from all of America’s top banks.
